This week on the #TOBcommunity spotlight, we would like to introduce you to Lauren Fernandes, a freelance graphic designer, and co-founder of Young Black Psych. Young Black Psych is a social enterprise company specialising in spreading awareness and providing useful, easy-to-use resources for young people’s mental health within the BME community.
How do you / your organisation support and celebrate marginalised people?
Young Black Psych is a social enterprise company specialising in spreading awareness and providing useful, easy-to-use resources for young people’s mental health within the BME community. Our aim is to bridge the gap through fun accessible tools to support in challenging the stigma around mental health creating a global positive change.
In 2020, we raised over £5k through Kickstarter and were able to launch our first resource, The A-Z Coping Strategy Cards. The cards encourage resilience development and inspire young people to be the best version of themselves by pairing coping strategies with affirmations.
What can we expect from you in the coming months?
Lots of exciting things are in store for Young Black Psych. We recently just turned one and are in the process of wrapping up some promotional video for our A-Z Coping Strategy cards, which we got to film this Summer with our customers. We are also aiming to work with local boroughs such as Redbridge to get our coping cards in schools as well as creating partnerships with local bookshops in London.
This month, we will be launching some free online resources which can be downloaded to print or use digitally and will be introducing a new member to the team. So be sure to follow us for updates!
